There are those who travel to Marajó, specifically to Soure, imagining that one day is enough to see its tourist attractions. However, upon returning to Belém, there is that feeling that “the ideal would have been to stay 3 days” or “if I had known I would have stayed longer”. Therefore, many tourists end up extending their stay in the region and fully enjoying its natural beauty.
The itineraries we create for Ilha de Marajó take logistics into account. This way, you can enjoy them calmly and without rushing.
It is worth mentioning that the main tourist attractions are far from the center of Soure. For this reason, it will be necessary to hire a taxi, motorcycle taxi or rent a bicycle – as long as you are physically able to do so. The good news? Much of the land is flat and easy to find.
Another alternative is to hire a local tourism agency to travel and discover the destinations. Although it is more expensive, travel agencies can arrange packages that include tour guide services, a great alternative for finding out more about the destination.

Road Trip Itinerary on Marajó Island: 1 day
Pesqueiro Beach, Fazenda São Jerônimo or Fazenda Mironga
If you only have 1 day to visit Soure, our suggestion is to go to Praia do Pesqueiro (tour and lunch) and visit Fazenda São Jerônimo or Fazenda Mironga. These 2 farms are opposite each other, around a 20-minute walk between them.
Fazenda São Jerônimo offers a package of tours that include: Walk on the deserted beach, trail, boat trip, one-on-one mangrove tour and ride on a buffalo. The value of this package is R$250.
At Fazenda Mironga the package includes Gastronomy based on buffalo milk (cheese, sweet, milk…), a tour of the farm and a chat about the buffaloes in Marajó. The value of this package is R$90.
To schedule tours at Fazenda São Jerônimo, call (91) 99347-2364 and for Mironga (91) 98267-0202. It is also possible to go to Fazenda Mironga Farm without taking the tourist package and just buying the products.
The next day, if you return to Belém in the afternoon, then in the morning be sure to visit Praia da Barra Velha Beach, it is about 3.5 km away from the center of Soure, leaving Trapiche or port of soure.
Road Trip Itinerary on Marajó Island: 2 days
1st day: Praia da Barra Velha, Fazenda Mironga or Fazenda São Jerônimo
If you have 2 days to visit Soure, our suggestion is to go to Praia da Barra Velha and visit a farm (Mironga or São Jerônimo).
On the way to Praia da Barra Velha, the obligatory stop is to stop by Ateliê Arte Mangue Marajó. The establishment reproduces the famous Marajoara ceramics in an identical way. The replicas are dated between the years 400 and 1400, a period in which the region was inhabited by indigenous people.
2nd day: Vila do Pesqueiro, Boat trip (Poço Encantado), Praia do Céu and Praia do Pesqueiro
On your second day in Soure we suggest 5 tours, although this day includes many activities, it is possible to do them calmly. This is because, as previously stated, we take logistics into account.
Start the day by visiting Vila do Pesqueiro, where there are boat trips that travel through the holes in that region – Holes are small river channels in the middle of the forest.
We recommend the Poço Encantado boat trip from the company Renan Turismo, this tour sails the river, passes through the mangroves, makes a stop in the community of Céu, another stop at Praia do Céu and ends at the return to Vila do Pesqueiro.
Tours take place between 7 and 9 am, when the tide is high.
Important: it is not possible to get from Praia do Céu to Vila do Pesqueiro on foot. Therefore, if you want to stay longer at Praia do Céu and from there even walk to visit Praia do Caju-una, you will have to negotiate your return with Renan Turismo or another local guide, so in this case you will need to schedule your return by boat from Praia do Céu to Vila do Pesqueiro.
From Vila do Pesqueiro, walk for 20 minutes to Praia do Pesqueiro. Here, you can spend the rest of the day having lunch and sightseeing.
On the way back to the capital Belém you can also take the opportunity to take a City Tour in Soure in the morning or a tour of one of the Furos.

On your third day in Soure, in the morning we recommend taking a boat trip on Furo do Miguelão or Mata Fome, both trips leave from the center of the municipality of Soure, in Porto das Rabetas.
In the afternoon you can explore the beautiful beaches of Caju-una and Praia do Céu, as well as their communities of colorful houses on these beaches, which are an attraction in themselves. Access to the beaches passes through the middle of Fazenda Bom Jesus, which is already a great walk, as you will pass through flooded fields full of birds, buffaloes and Marajoara horses (Brazilian breed).
- Access to Fazenda Bom Jesus is free.
** Praia do Caju-una does not have any commercial establishments such as a restaurant or bar, the beach is very rustic, while its neighboring beach Céu only has one restaurant.

6th day: Praia Grande, UTRAN, AERAJ and Joanes.
Itinerary on Marajó Island: 1 Praia Grande | 2 UTRAN | 3 AERAJ | 4 Joanes.
On your sixth day in Soure we recommend spending a day in Salvaterra, a municipality neighboring Soure and the second most visited for tourism in Marajó.
Leaving Soure to Salvaterra, just cross the Paracauari River, which can be done by small boats (flying boats) for a R$3 ticket, or by ferry. The crossing time takes 10 or 30 minutes, depending on where you disembark in Salvaterra.
Early in the morning, cross to Salvaterra and start your walk along the coast of Praia Grande, then head to Praia de Joanes, which takes around 18 km from Praia Grande, which you can go by motorcycle taxi, taxi or bicycle, this option is not recommended for those who do not usually cycle or are sedentary, despite the good track to Joanes, the route is in the sun and some sections are often quite windy.
On the way to Joanes you will pass by UTRAN (Açaí Nativo Rural Tourism Unit) and AERAJ (Associação Educativa Rural e Artesanal da Vila de Joanes).
